Elise Margaret Sheahan Mummert Seaton

Elise passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 in Tucson, AZ. Visitation will be Friday, June 28th from 12 p.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Moline.

Born to John and Bell Sheahan Altona,IL June 20th 1919.  The family moved to La Fayette IL in 1925 where she and her three sisters and 2 brothers attended school.  She graduated from high school in 1937 as salutatorian of her class.  Her folks later moved to rural Galva IL when at the age of 65 years old her father bought a farm and continued to farm the land until he was in his 80’s.  After graduation from high school Elise then attended Beauty School in Kewanee IL where she graduated in 1939.  Elise worked in a beauty shop in Princeton IL until marrying in 1940.
   

She married John (Jack) B. Mummert of Rock Island IL in 1940.  She had two children Michael and Susan ten years apart.  She owned and operated a beauty shop in her home for 20 years.  Her husband Jack worked at John Deere Harvester in East Moline for 40 years and died in 1978 of lung cancer.
In 1979, she married Jerry Seaton of Moline IL and was married for 31 years before his passing at the age of 96 years old in 2010.  They enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter months enjoying golf, playing cards with their many friends and traveling.  They were long time members of Green Valley Country Club in Clermont FL in the winter months and members of Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley in the summer months.  In later years they vacationed in Tucson AZ where her daughter lives and Phoenix AZ where her son lives.
   

She always enjoyed golf, playing cards, her family and many friends.  She always showed a natural ability for stylish decorating in her home and was a
talented seamstress.  She was a great sales associate when she worked at Carson, Pirie, Scott & Co in Moline and later at La Rose Shop in downtown Moline IL.  She had a natural talent for pairing outfits with the perfect accessories and choosing styles that would complement her customers appearance.
She never lost her love of styles and beautiful clothes which explains her lifelong love of clothes shopping  even until days just before her 100th birthday.
    

Elise and Jerry were longtime members of Sacred Heart Church Moline IL  In 2010 at the age of 91 years old she moved to Tucson to be closer to her daughter and son.  She was active until the last week of her life going out for rides in the car and shopping at the Tucson Mall with her daughter.  All of the sales associates in the department stores knew us and would always visit with her.  
    

She is survived by her son Michael (Sandi) Glendale, AZ, her daughter Susan (Tucson AZ), four grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two stepdaughters Diane (East Moline IL), Bonnie (Richard) Sarasota FL, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a brother, Patrick Sheahan, Galva, IL. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, three sisters and one brother.
