Russell Schmidt, 91, formerly of Rock Island, died Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Stratford Health Care, Palm Harbor, FL.
Service are 11a.m. Friday September 30 at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation will be 4-7p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center,
Milan, IL.
Russell was born May 8, 1914 in Northwood, IA, the son of Leroy and Lois Hurd Schmidt. He married Helen Radke in September 1939 in Clear Lake, IA. She preceded him in death on June 15, 1981.
Mr. Schmidt retired from the former John Deere Plow Planter works, Moline in 1979 after 40 years. Russell loved his family and friends.
Survivors include a daughter Linda Ales, Bettendorf; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Barbara Schmidt, Sherrard, Peter and Lynn Schmidt, Safety Harbor, FL and Jeffrey Schmidt, Phoenix, AZ; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a sister Maureen Blanford, Waterloo, IA. He was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Beth in 1957.
