Ruth Garrett Obituary

      Ruth Mae Garrett, 91, of Moline, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 16, 2019 from 5 - 7 p.m. at First Tabernacle Baptist Church, Moline, 2601 15th Street, Moline.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family.

     Ruth was born and raised on March 25, 1928 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Leroy and Myrtis B. Wiggins. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Selma Lee Wiggins and Mary L. Garcia and and brothers, Leroy Wiggins and Lemuel Wiggins.

     Ruth was educated in the Louisiana Public School System. Over the years, she was employed at Miller Container,  Alcoa, Oscar Meyer, Seaford Clothing, John Deere Plow and Planter and Servus Rubber.

     Ruth was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, recreational activities, shopping, going to movies and also going out to eat.

     Ruth Mae Wiggins married Alonzo Excel Garrett on December 19, 1950 in Shreveport. He preceded her in death. They had two children, son Van Garrett of Moline and daughter, Patricia A. (Garrett)  Anderson of Davenport.

     She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Van Garrett, daughter, Patricia Anderson; nieces, Mary Spraggins, Sally Bates, Wanda Smith, Tina Wiggins, Nina Wiggins Sharon Clark, Sabrina Clark and nephew, Rodney Clark; grandchildren, Keenan Garrett, Quincy Garrett, Kalisha Garrett, Erica Evans, Stashu Anderson, Chime're Woods, Cobrianda Anderson, Charisma Anderson, Anastasia Anderson, Falon Anderson, Laetitia Braxton and a host of 30 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren along with many friends and church family.
