Walter DeBlair, 91, of Rock Island, died Thursday, November 24, 2005 at St. Anthony’s Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 28, 2005, 12:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Visitation is Monday 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island, where military rites will be conducted by American Legion, Post 246, Moline.
Walter DeBlair was born January 22, 1914 in Rock Island, the son of Gustaf & Clara Joye DeBlaere.
Mr. DeBlair was a WWII Army Veteran.
Walter moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1949 and was employed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. He returned to Rock Island in 1988. He was earlier employed by the Illinois State Employment Service, and the Veterans Administration.
He was a former member of Sacred Heart Church, Moline, and was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Davenport, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Survivors include sisters, Madelyn Bufe, Tucson, AZ and Alice Moore, Bloomington, IL; nieces, Carol Phillips and Mary Atzen, both of Illinois; nephews, Chaz Bufe, AZ and David Bufe, CA and a special friend, Mary Wilwert, Davenport. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Murrin.
