Obituary

Ben Hood, 78, of Rock Island, IL, passed away in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. Services will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Ben was born on September 12, 1942 in Sarepta, LA, the son of Charles and Clemmie (Burton) Hood. He married Mary Chacon on December 3, 1967 in Las Vegas, NV.  

After serving his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1960 – 1964, he worked at the Golden Cream Bakery in Culver City, CA before relocating to the Quad Cities. After working several years at JI Case, he began employment at XPac as a warehouse manager.  In 2010, he retired after 25 years of service. 

Over the course of his life, Ben enjoyed camping and fishing with his family, heading to the Quad City Downs for horse racing, maintaining a garden, bowling in various leagues with his wife, playing Soduku and watching football & westerns.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary, daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Eric Winterlin and Theresa and Scott Illingsworth; step-grandsons, Christian Winterlin and Carter Winterlin; sister and brother-in-law Maudie and Drew Harris and brother and sister-in-law, James and Lynn Hood.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Wanda Dever and Betty Hood, brother, Charles Hood, Jr.
