Joan Guzzo

Joan Elizabeth Guzzo, 90, of Davenport, passed away on May 3, 2023, at the Kahl Home, Davenport. A Private Memorial Mass will be held on May 20th.  At a later date, a private committal service will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. 

Joan was born March 30, 1933, in New Baden, IL, the only child born to Walter and Henrietta Griesbaum. She graduated from New Baden High School and later attended business college in St. Louis, MO. She met her husband, Joe Guzzo, at Scott Air Force Base. 

She married Joseph James Guzzo on October 3, 1953, in New Baden, IL. They lived there for a short time and later moved to Rock Island, Illinois. Joe and Joan raised five children and worked together for their family business. Joan also worked at Augustana College and Public Service in Denver, CO. They spent 18 years enjoying life in Denver, Colorado, before returning to the Quad Cities.  

Together they enjoyed square dancing, music, camping, many friends and family occasions. Joan played the piano and the organ, created needlework projects and enjoyed their pets. 

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 2017, and son, Dominic, in 2016. She is survived by her children, Joseph Guzzo, Jr., Davenport, IA, Jack (Kimbra) Guzzo, Davenport, IA, Julie (Doug) Renkes, Hutchinson, MN, and Jana (J.C.) Gosa, Hampton, IL, 13 Grandchildren, 25 Great-Grandchildren and many relatives and good friends.
