Phyllis Ann Engels, 87, died Monday, May 17, 2021 at her home in Cedar Falls, IA after a long journey with dementia.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 24th at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Visitation will be held prior to mass from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Alleman High School where Phyllis and her children attended, and her grandson currently coaches the girls’ soccer team.
Phyllis was born July 26th, 1933 in Canby, Minnesota, to Maurice and Martha (Clybouw) Bultynck. On July 30, 1955, she married Richard Engels at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan IL. Together they raised 5 children, Christine, Constance, Stephen, Todd and Beth. The family lived in the Quad Cities area until relocating to Cedar Falls, IA in 1975. Phyllis enjoyed being a homemaker and in her spare time loved playing cards. Phyllis and Dick traveled to 49 states, and to many of their grandchildren sporting events. She was their loyal supporter and cheerleader throughout the years.
Those left to honor her memory include her loving husband of 65 years and her caregiver, Richard; her children, Christine Taylor, Laguna Niguel, CA, Constance (Clay) Hollmer, Davenport, IA, Stephen (Nancy) Engels, Ft. Worth, TX, Todd (Tiffany) Engels, Anna, TX and Beth Engels, Ames, IA and 8 grandchildren. She is survived by 2 sisters, Dolores and Lucrese, and many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jack, sisters Patricia, Margret and Bernice, her mother and father-in-law, Otto and Helen Engels, and brothers-in-law, Rex, Mick and Marvin.
